The work of Holy Spirit in the believer

Posted onApril 7, 2024April 20, 2024

Exploring Holy Spirits work in our life.

Perhaps the greatest paradigm shift occurred in seeing Holy Spirits work in my life. For years and years in my walk as a Christian, I was taught that Holy Spirit is the one convicting me of all my sin. I would not say that my struggle with sin was different than most. But the thing is, when we sin as Christian most all of us know what we did, we fell the remorse, we know the struggle all too well that the very things we want not to be doing, we have done. So, the concept that Holy Spirit is there rubbing our sin in, would in myself just heap shame into the situation and in fact in my life it would cause me to pull even further from God.

John 16:7-11 Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you. And when He has come, He will convict the world sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: of sin, because they do not believe in Me; of righteousness, because I go to My Father and you see Me no more; of judgement, because the ruler of this world is judged.

John 15:18-19 “If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.

As a born-again Christian I am no longer of the world, as Jesus taught. So, with this in mind let’s explore the work of Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is at work in the world convicting the world of sin; what sin? the sin of unbelief. I remember as a young Christian meeting with my Pastor, because I was convinced that I had committed the unpardonable sin, my pastor told me that if I was concerned about the sin that I had committed, I had not yet committed the unpardonable sin. The answer was somewhat vague and left me then wondering what is the unpardonable sin? Today I believe the unpardonable sin is unbelief. Jesus died for all our sins, but if we never believe, never accept Jesus as Lord of our life the work he did on the cross is not applied to our life.

2 Peter 3:9 the Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.

God’s love, for the world and the people in it is so great that the Holy Spirit is working to bring salvation to as many as possible. And for the believer the Holy Spirit is at work in us convicting us of our righteousness, tearing down the lies of the enemy. Working with us tearing down the strongholds we have built in our lives by partnering with a lie, such as the feeling of worthlessness; that’s a lie! Jesus came and died for you! You have great worth! and Jesus knew what He was doing when He chose you!

Jesus knew that in His departure from earth the disciples would not have Him there reminding them of their worth, their value, and their right standing with God. So, He sent the Holy Spirit to help them remember; and this is true for us today.
